Introduction

I am always believe in education, which can make us smarter and more knowledgeable and which can let us grow up and be aware that what is going on in our society and what can make our life significant. To triumph, I keep thinking how can I get better education or in which way they can provide better education. For most of you, which I mean live in the western culture, there was a way to be educated called homeschooling as known at long time ago. Furthermore, according the figures on Nzherald there were 5976 homeschoolers in 2001 in NZ and based on HSLDA, there are approximately 1,700,000 children are homeschooler in 2003 in USA. And the most different thing from the countries like china is that the western countries such as USA, NZ, Australia, Canada and the UK admit that homeschooling is legal.

Anyway, let’s figure out the definition first. What is homeschooling? From the literal meaning, it is easy to infer that one get education in home instead of traditional school. In other way, it can be explained as families to take the responsibility to educate their children without the professional education institutions and to teach their children some subjects that they chose.

  1. Hey, interesting topic. Are you for or against homeschooling?

Personally I'm against homeschooling because my belief is that home schooled kids do not get the benefit of social interaction. With public schools there are other students so you can make friends and build relationships. With home schooling it is pretty much just you and your textbooks.

  2. I am also against the concept of homeschooling - I think for the child in the long run their ability of social interaction will be effected by homeschooling. As much as it may benefit them educationally I think an important part of growth for the child is social interaction.
